May-Lis Bertin, was born and lives in Brussels when she is not traveling. After graduating in translation and computer science and a master’s degree in communication, she has worked for several years in industry, in charities organisations and in education before doing freelance reporting for Belgian television (Matière Grise and Cheval Magazine).
In parallel, she did volunteer work with Médecins du Monde. In this context she got to know and followed the life of many undocumented North Africans. She was able to collect evidence, discovering the reality of the white and grey marriages. Neither white nor black, this reality led her gradually to write a screenplay. She chose to direct and produce the film with very little means. No way could she spend a year writing applications with uncertain outcome, and opted for low cost and produced her film with a small crew.
